The tour takes a look at the historical sights to tells of Berlin's rich history seen from the perspective of the "little people", as the man on the street is called in Gemany. Berlin has always been "poor, but sexy" (to quote Wowereit, the current Mayor of Berlin), but somehow the city always managed to make ends meet – if necessary with the help of such imaginative means as introducing "spinster taxes".
The perspective of the grocers, fishermen, servants, soldiers and maids makes the city come to life: the colourfull hustle and bustle in the medieval citycentre, the elegant ruling classes (nobility, lords and ladies (das hat aber ein ziemlich Britischen konnotation) on the grand (magnificent) boulevard Unter den Linden, the alley cats in the "Scheuneviertel" (the barn district) of the wilhelminian times, the soviet soldiers of World War II at the Reichstag.
